About Doug

Education:

B.A. in Economics, Saint Olaf College, 2008

M.A. in Intercultural Leadership, Bethany Global University, 2022

Career Background:

From 2008-2013 and 2023-present, I have served as a financial advisor with three retirement planning firms.

From 2013-2023, I served in global missions with Bethany Global University in Bloomington, MN I started as a fundraising coach for the missionaries, and added to that Advancement Director, Finance/Operations Director, and later Director of Global Development and Vice President. I resigned from Bethany in July 2023.

During my time at Bethany, I helped coach 400 missionaries in raising financial support. I also had the privilege of developing international partnerships with dozens of ministries, schools, and businesses in unreached countries to host our university students during their one-year global internship experience as juniors.

Church Background:

My family attended Bethany Church in Bloomington, MN, from 2011 to 2022. I had the privilege to preach on the topic of financial stewardship, lead workshops, and provide individual coaching. I spearheaded a ministry serving the ‘least of these,’ which still operates today. I served on the finance team for seven years, as an elder from 2016-2022, and led our congregational meetings and strategic planning from 2019-2021. Bethany Church branched off into three new initiatives in the spring of 2023 – a church plant in Jordan, MN, a home-church network, and a home church.

Stewardship Experience:

I felt a call to financial stewardship in 2009 while working at a financial firm in New Prague, MN. I began memorizing scripture on finances and helped lead the integration of Kingdom Advisors into Ameriprise Financial’s advisor network. I stepped away from financial planning in 2011. I developed a financial stewardship ministry, where I began researching stewardship ministries, summarizing each one in detail, and offering free consulting to churches. Since then, I have studied, written, spoken, and coached on stewardship in a variety of contexts.

Family:

Maybe the most important qualification is that I have been happily married to my wife, Ashley, for 17 years. We have four children, ages 5-14. We practice the stewardship material I teach in our own home, which is where I found the renewed conviction to begin offering my help to churches after an extended break. We have lived in Bloomington since 2008.
